I’m just getting started and want to see what you have but I’m not ready to actuallypurchase a dress at the moment.
This is dangerous territory. Our turnover is rapid, and we sell our dresses much faster than our clients sometimes realize. Once a dress is gone, we’ll never have anything like it again. We strongly recommend waiting to shop until you’re officially ready to “meet“ your gown and potentially take her home. In the mean time, check out recent bridal clients whose weddings we've shared on Facebook, our Instagram account, our Pinterest pages, and our Etsy shop to get a better handle on what our gowns look like.
Do I have to make an appointment?
Yes, please. We show gowns in a private studio and don't keep regular hours. We pull all your gowns ahead of time and have them waiting for you in the fitting room when you arrive. Call us at 612-716-8006 or emailus. Please be prepared to answer the questions below.
How do you know what to pull for me?
Great question! We request some key info:
your wedding date
normal dress size
budget before alterations
are you local/can you return to MN for 2-5 alteration appointments?
have you ever tried on a wedding gown before this moment
We’re able to immediately narrow down our entire stock to about 15 dresses based on these factors, and those 15ish gowns are what we begin with at your appointment.
Do you sell online?
Yes! Visit our Etsy shop to better browse our inventory
What do you mean by ‘vintage’?
Our gowns span a range of eras from 1930-1999, and we also have some contemporary gowns with styles similar to those found on true vintage gowns.
Do you have an in-house seamstress? What do alterations really mean?
We certainly do have an in-house seamstress, and she's amazing! The alterations process is a bit different in our shop, as we find most brides want to work with our seamstress to alter necklines, remove sleeves & long trains (possibly using the fabric from these discarded parts to open the bodice and turn a size 2 into a much larger size), or discard more elaborate vintage details such as dropped waists. This is in addition to fit alterations.
Why do you redesign the wedding gowns? Isn’t vintage quite popular right now?
While vintage clothing in general is very popular, most people are unfamiliar with what vintage wedding dresses actually look like. We work with our brides to bring out the lovely timeless quality in every wedding gown.
I’m plus size/ very tall/ quite petite/ a human being.
I don’t think a vintage wedding dress will fit me!
We can comfortably accommodate sizes Petite 000-Tall 16, and everything in between. If a dress is not quite right, our seamstress will work her magic to make it fit you perfectly. In other words, don’t worry!
Wait, do you always remove the sleeves?
But I want long sleeves! That’s why I came to you!
Most vintage sleeves are solid, heavy, opaque fabric to the wrist. Typically our clients desire a lighter, sheer, sleeve that is only ¾ length. These can be custom built onto any dress in our shop. Additionally, we always keep the sleeves with the dress, just in case you want to use the remaining fabric for a creative purpose.
Do you have Temple Ready dresses, or gowns appropriate
for another modest setting (Jewish synagogue, Pentecostal, etc)?
Absolutely! We always have a large selection of modest dresses that are elegant and tasteful.
It would mean a lot to me to wear my grandma's wedding dress. However, it has puffy sleeves/a long train/a weird neckline/ three sizes too small/etc.
If I bring it to you, can your seamstress make it work for me?
Fear not! Our fantastic seamstress can customize a gown, removing and repurposing sleeves and long trains, altering necklines, or even opening the bodice to a much larger size.
Our wedding pictures turned out FANTASTIC! We’d love to share them with you!
You’d love to share some wedding day photos? Well, we’d love to have them! We can put them up in our gallery here and on Facebook; just email themor private message us on Facebook.
Where do we get the gowns?
This is a very popular question! We get them from a variety of sources (pretty much anywhere you can imagine). Andrea works hard to find unusual gowns that fit a variety of body shapes, and has sources across the globe who contact her with possibilities. Our focus has always been high-end/designer gowns from every decade. The only place we really don’t get them is from estate sales, because the dresses found there aren’t popular with our clientele.
I found an adorable vintage/’vintage-style’ dress on a blog that I adore.
Do you have it/something just like it?
Sometimes we do, but it’s just as likely that you’ll find something that fits your body and your budget that you never even knew existed. We encourage people to wait until they’ve seen our diverse array of wedding dresses before they plan a style or era around a dress they may not be able to find. After all, many brides find a dress here that’s even more unexpectedly amazing than the one they were looking for!
My wedding is in a month, and I’m kind of a last-minute gal.
How long do alterations take?
Ideally we’d give the seamstress 2-3 months, but she might be able to fit you in on a tighter schedule. If your timetable is really last-minute, it’s possible there’ll be a rush charge.
Can your seamstress make me a dress?
Most likely, yes. Please contact us for more info.
My mom/grandma/friend is an accomplished seamstress. Do we have to use your seamstress?
You are in no way beholden to our seamstress. However, the reconstruction we suggest (often to address gaps in sizing) is outside the abilities and time constraints of many seamstresses. We have occasionally had a bride use an outside seamstress to do standard bridal alterations (fit, bustling, hemming, etc), but this is very rare.
I have a hard time making decisions. Do you hold dresses?
Unfortunately, we are not able to hold gowns at this time. We encourage you to take pictures during your appointment to help you make this big decision.
I bought my dress from you. I had a lovely time in it, and now I want someone else to enjoy it.
We do occasionally purchase dresses from our brides. The offered price will differ depending on how alterations have changed the dress, and what we’re currently looking for.
I want to sell you a dress. Do you ever buy or consign?
We don’t consign, but we occasionally buy. However, with so many gowns in stock its a VERY rare occurrence. Please call us at 612-716-8006 for more info, or feel to text us photos of the dress to that number or emailus the photos. We can determine everything we need to know from a photo!
I’m a photographer, and your wedding dresses are so lovely!
Can I borrow one for a photo shoot?
Thank you, but unfortunately we're not able to rent or lend dresses at the current time unless we can be present on the shoot.
Why are there so many songs about rainbows, and what’s on the other side?
Preliminary studies suggest a tertiary relationship between psychosocial entertainment elements in modern cultures and the metaphysical aspects of a collective unconscious that pertain to repressed experiential motives, pursuant to a post-diplomatic hegemony.
But really, its cuz we all want to be part of something beautiful.
